your wardens 2018/19
COME MEET YOUR WARDEN.
Welcome to St Salvator’s Hall! I am delighted that you are joining our close-knit hall community and I hope that you will soon come to feel that Sallies is a home away from home.
The Sallies Wardennial Team consists of Warden Samantha Lister, and four Assistant Wardens. We are here to help you settle in, to feel at home and to enjoy your time in residence. You can read more about our Team at: www.st-andrews.ac.uk/accommodation/ug/current/residents/wardens/stsalvatorshall/team/ We provide out-of-hours contact and support and links to day-time services to ensure that help is available to you round-the-clock. We are a first point of contact in hall if a health crisis occurs, if you are experiencing difficulties, or if you are just feeling a bit homesick and would like to talk to one of us. We are also responsible for student discipline in hall. If you have any questions or concerns, or just want to have a chat with one of the Team, please do get in touch. You will find us in the dining hall at most meal times, and one of us will be in the Warden’s Office from 7-8pm, Monday to Friday, so you can always pop by after dinner for a chat. Sallies is a beautiful place and a special community and we hope you will have a fantastic year in our hall. Best wishes, Samantha Lister, Warden |
your COMMITTEE 2018/19
COME MEET YOUR COMMITTEE.
Iain Paterson Senior student Hello and welcome to Sallies! My name is Iain and I am your Senior Student for the coming year, this means I am the head of the student committee. The job of the committee is to put on events throughout the year for the residents of the hall. My job is also to represent sallies in the wider university community and to make sure that your voice is heard. If you have any questions or suggestions or just want to k now a bit more about sallies or the university please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me, my email is [email protected]. I look forward to welcoming you all to your new home in September! Anthony Flynn Secretary I'm Anthony and I will be your Secretary for next year. Despite being a native Scot, my favourite part of the university is the opportunity it provides to meet people from all over the world. Sallies is wonderful in this way too – you will meet people from so many walks of life during your stay here. I spend a considerable part of my time teaching medically accurate, inclusive sex and relationships education in local Fife schools. I hope to bring this expertise to improve the wellbeing of all students in our wonderful residence. I enjoy reading poetry, autobiographies, and books about life purpose. Feel free to approach me with any questions, suggestions or concerns you have about Sallies wherever you see me around this wonderful town – I am more than happy to help! Liam Arne Sexual Health Officer Hey guys! My name is Liam Arne and I will be your male sexual health officer this year in Sallies. You can always come to me if you have any questions regarding safe sex, sexual health and decisions, or anything at all! When I'm not distributing condoms, I like to read, study IR, get Empire chips and curry, or dance in the streets. I'm looking forward to an awesome year with you all! Polen Türkmen Librarian I am a second-year Philosophy and Comparative Literature student. As a Bejantine, I lived in Gannochy House but have since moved into the main building. You may occasionally find me in our cosy small panelled library in Sallies, searching for hall treasures. I am quite the bibliophile so I welcome your book requests and conversations over a cup of tea, and perhaps, Turkish Delight. Sallies ‘Til We Die! |
Caitlin Duffy Deputy senior student Whether it’s about physics, horses or a love of Scotland, I am always willing to chat over a cup of one of my many types of tea. When I’m not in my room studying, drinking tea or organising things for the committee, you’ll likely find me either playing the piano or quite literally running around town (the latter usually occurring at around 10pm…). In my role as deputy, I will: support Iain, the Senior Student; work behind the scenes to organise the annual hall photograph, hall clothing and the (very exciting) Sallies tradition of High Table throughout the year. Although much of my role is played out in the background, I aim to be open and approachable to all residents, so please say hello if you bump into me! Hermione Bird Sports rep I’m a second year student from Cheshire, England studying Philosophy and English Literature. As Hall Sports Rep it’s my role to get people involved in the interhall sports competitions. They run every Tuesday and Thursday and we play everything from Capture the Flag to Basketball. Having done Hall Sports last year I found it a brilliant way to make friends, not just in Sallies but also with other halls. It’s also an effortless way to stay fit and healthy, if like me you can’t be bothered to walk to the gym. Feel free to talk to me about it if you’re interested! Caterina Brunelli Charities rep My name is Caterina Brunelli and I am a second year student studying International Relations and French. I am very glad to also serve as Charities Representative for this coming year. As such, my job is to organise various activities and events to help raise funds for our hall charities, which residents of the hall will be able to choose at the beginning of the year. To make everything even more exciting, there is also a competition between halls on who raises the most! I look forward to meeting you and do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries! Sophia Mohammed Sexual Health officer My name is Sophia and I am your female sexual health officer this year! I strongly believe in ensuring the safety and health of every member in this hall. As a medical student, I take confidentiality very seriously and will provide a non judgemental outlook. Availability of contraception and advice surrounding STIs and safe sex is a priority so that everyone is educated and equipped to keep themselves safe and healthy. I want students to feel comfortable discussing sexual health and approach me with anything they need support with. |
Joseph Clarke Treasurer Hey, I'm Joseph and I'm the Treasurer. The Senior Student and I allocate funds for the planned events, and for all committee related expenditure, and it is my job to ensure we're on budget! I study Theoretical Physics and Applied Maths, and like reading and music! I live in C3, and I look forward to seeing you next year! Emily Matthews Food rep I’m Emily, I am a second year studying international Relations and Social Anthropology. I love cooking and baking (perhaps too much!), so hopefully that will help me in the role of food rep. My aim is to make sure that everyone is satisfied with the food in hall, so if you have any queries or suggestions then I would love to hear them! Harrison Roberts Publicity rep Hello, my name is Harrison and I am currently in my second year studying History. Before arriving at St. Andrews, home had been a small hamlet on the outskirts of Carmarthenshire in South West Wales, however Sallies is now very much my second home. I am a keen lover and participant in music and drama, while also being a member of St. Andrews’ best and only comedy improve group, ‘Blind Mirth’. As Hall Publicity representative it is my job to ensure that all Hall news and events are reached to all members of the Hall whether that is through social media on Facebook or in our weekly Sallies’ Newsletter, ‘The Salvatorian’. Ashley Brenton Alumni rep Hi, y'all! I'm Ashley Brenton and I am a third year studying history in the Joint Degree Programme with William and Mary. This will be my second year living in Gannochy. I am this year's Alumni Rep, which basically just means I keep in touch with past Sallies and Gannochy residents (Sallies 'til we die!). Oscar Portabales It rep Hello, I'm your IT representative. If you have any problems with your electronic devices feel free to come talk to me, send me an email ([email protected]) or send me a message though Facebook/text. If you have any suggestions for it services and you prefer, you can communicate them to me and I'll pass them on to it services. |
