home is where sallies is.
St Salvator's hall rests moments away from both the centre of St Andrews and Castle Sands. It is modelled on the posterior of Oxford colleges, was founded in the early 1930's by Vice Chancellor, Sir James Irvine, and we pride ourselves on being one of St Andrews most prestigious halls. Sallies has many hallowed traditions, including high table, the famous sallies chant "Sallies till we die'", and Sallies Hall Ball (at the Old Course!).
From our many traditions to our tight knit community of students, there is plenty to get involved in and we hope that you will enjoy becoming a part of the team.

To get to St Salvators Hall, driving towards St Andrews from Guardbridge on the A91, go straight on past the large first roundabout as you approach the town (follow signs for the Town Centre). Go straight ahead at the second roundabout, and follow the road down North Street until you pass the library and St Salvators Chapel on your left. Directly afterwards you should see the large gates to the hall on your left.
Beware: there are many one way systems in St Andrews, be careful to go down these the right way!

St Andrews does not have its own train station (there are plans afoot to reintroduce a rail link but this is some way off still). As a result you will need to take the train to Leuchars station, which is roughly 5 miles from St Andrews itself.
Leuchars is on the line from Edinburgh to Dundee/Aberdeen, and is served by approximately hourly ScotRail trains in each direction. You can look at times on the National Rail Website, or the Trainline.com.
There are also a few direct trains from London-Aberdeen which call at Leuchars run by National Express East Coast: if you are coming from London and catch these you don’t need to change in Edinburgh.
From Leuchars, you can get a taxi (~£10) or a bus.

If travelling from Leuchars rail station you will either need to take a taxi from one of the stands outside the station, or a bus. Take the Stagecoach X99 (or 99a/b) bus to St Andrews (~£3). The bus will drop you at St Andrews bus station. From here it takes a little over 5 minutes to walk to Sallies.
From the bus station, cross City Road at the traffic lights, and follow Market Street until you reach the end and see Cromars fish and chip shop. Turn left down church street, and then right on North Street. Walk for approximately 300 ft, and you will see the large gates into St Salvator's on your left. If you've reached North Point, you've gone a little too far.

Edinburgh Airport is about an hour away, and is served by a variety of airlines including British Airways, Easyjet, Ryanair, Lufthansa, KLM, Delta and United.
You will need to make an onward connections to St Andrews by car, bus, or train. There is a frequent shuttle bus from Edinburgh Airport to the centre of Edinburgh, costing £3 single/£5 return. These take about 25 minutes, and call at Edinburgh Haymarket and Edinburgh Waverley stations, both of which are on the railway line to Leuchars.
On the weekend that hall opens in Freshers’ Week, the University organises direct shuttle buses to St Andrews for students arriving at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports - watch for people in bright red University gowns at the airport.

St Andrews is serviced by a multitude of different taxi services. There is no Uber as of yet, but there are several other different companies, from pre-booked hires, to call and collect. One potential idea is to book yourself onto one of the shared pre-booked taxis which services students between Edinburgh Airport and St Andrews.

FUN FACTS.
size
The close knit community is made up of around 200, predominantly undergraduate, students.
Gannochy HOUSE
Gannochy House is an annexe of St. Salvator's Hall that was built in the 1970's. Residents share all the same traditions (including the Sallies Freshers' timetable), and also eat in the Sallies dining hall. Due to current numbers of students accepted into St Andrews, Gannochy, once post graduate housing, now acts as overflow housing to St Salvators.
THE TALE OF RORY MCLION
It is said that the beloved charities mascot of St Andrews, Rory McLion, was born in the basement of Sallies. That makes Sallies Pride Rock, right?
